What everyone must remember is that you raised your right hand and swore that you will defend this nation against all enemies, both foreign and domestic, so help me God. From that point on is was left up to the government as to where they needed you. I often use my Father as an example of this. During WW II he served in Alaska for two years then to Mo. guarding German prisoners. When young, I always heard other kids talk about their Fathers in the War in combat and thought maybe my Father was not as important but he did what he was told and did it well. Now I realize all missions must take place and they are all important in the overall plan. Look back in history and the National Guard was first started for the American Revolution, prior to there being a full time force. They have fought in all wars except limited in Korea and Viet Nam. What people don't understand is that when the Guard and Reserve is used there is greater support by the citizens of our Country due to local members of the military that is involved that are known as neighbors or co workers. Certainly not to take away from our full time forces but the military is set up to have the right force in place as needed. In all planning, the Guard and Reserve is a part of the plan and can carry out that mission. I will use the 48th Gray Bonnet Bde 121 Infantry Battalion that you were a member of. Since 1990 they have mobilized for Desert Storm, they have deployed to Bosnia for a year, to Iraq for a year and to Afghanistan for a year so you can see the need and impact this unit has in the overall military plan. So in closing, when you raised your right hand you did your duty for our Nation and THANKS for your commitment. Lets all remember to THANK GOD for our Veterans and their Families. Allen Carr ret.
